The chassis is the single most consequential decision in a special vehicle build — and it is made before any design work starts. Get it wrong and no amount of engineering downstream will save the project.
Why export makes chassis selection harder
A chassis that works domestically can fail completely in an export market. The variables that change across borders:
- Registration class. How the vehicle is classified determines what licence is needed to drive it and whether it can be registered at all.
- Axle and weight limits. Gross vehicle weight and per-axle limits vary. A body that fits within limits in one country may be overweight in another.
- Certification. CE, ECE, CCC and regional standards each carry different testing and documentation requirements.
- Fuel, parts and service. A chassis with no local dealer or parts network becomes a liability the moment something breaks in the field.
Our process
We confirm the base chassis and check road-legal feasibility for your destination country early — before design begins. For a chassis we have built on before, we use our existing measured data to move faster. For a new chassis, we measure the actual unit on arrival, because OEM drawings are often incomplete.
This is slower than quoting a vehicle off a spec sheet. It is also the only way to guarantee the finished build can actually be registered and operated where you need it.
